Last weekend millions watched 39-year-old Sam Waley-Cohen win the Grand National on Noble Yeats, making him the first amateur jockey to win the famous steeplechase in 32 years. It was his 10th attempt and was his final race before retirement. Sam is the only amateur jockey to win both the Grand National and Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Almost as surprising are Wayley-Cohen's links closer to home at Turkey Mill, the 20 acre business park in Maidstone. A dentist by trade, his business, Portman Dental owns a group of private clinics, one of which - Fresh Dental - is located at Turkey Mill in Maidstone, alongside a number of health & wellbeing tenants and a mix of 70+ other businesses.
Cohen's dentistry links were alluded to in his recent The Daily Telegraph interview, where he said if he won, he would fix stable lad Mick Molloy’s missing tooth. A promise he said he would of course honour.
Who knew? We just wish we had backed him at odds of 50-1 ………
