A look back in time at Turkey Mill from a previous resident

As followers of Turkey Mill will know, we love sharing stories from people who have a connection or interacted with our heritage estate over the years. We have previously heard from Paul Andrews from KentBizRadio on his job at the Mill and last week we received a lovely email from Betty Noakes, who used to live at Turkey Mill while it was a working paper mill, who says:
“My dad was the head gardener at Turkey Mill in the early Thirties to the late Sixties when it was a working paper mill.
I was born in 1947 and lived there until 1969 when my dad sadly died. One of the owners at the time, Major Pitt, helped my mum, brother and I get re-housed by the Council.
I now live at Allhallows with my husband, daughter and our pets.
I have many fond memories of the gardens at Turkey Mill, and it still feels like home. I very much enjoy seeing the mill and the gardens in their splendid current state and look out for the latest posts and stories on the website and on Turkey Mill’s social channels.
The gardens were my dad’s pride and joy and he’d be delighted to see them being so well looked after. It must be a very lovely place to work.
